At our National Convention in February 2020, participants voted on Food Insecurity & Hunger as our Social Action Initiative for 2020-2021.
In order to spread awareness for our initiative, we are organizing multiple events centered around this issue to better educate ourselves. We are implementing Social Action Sunday’s, where we’ll address different topics related to food insecurity on our Instagram.
In addition to spreading awareness, we at Young Judaea want to do our part to combat food insecurity directly. Many Americans are not able to access fresh nutritious food and this issue is exacerbated by the spread of COVID-19. We believe it is our responsibility to repair our world, the Jewish value of Tikun Olam. We are so excited to announce our (Alternative) Alternative Winter Break that will focus on food insecurity and food justice in partnership with Repair the World and Grow Torah. Though different than ever before, we are dedicated to making this AAWB just as meaningful as all the preceding ones. This four-day program from December 27-30 offers both virtual volunteering opportunities, and in-person volunteering opportunities in New York, Pittsburgh, and Miami.
This is NOT your average virtual program! Take a break from school and do something meaningful this winter break. It will be super interactive and we’ll have some campy YJ programming as well. Can’t wait to see you there!
